Chiropractors warn why sleeping on the right side is not beneficial for health.

When we think that a person spends the third of his life sleeping, it might be interesting to know which is the best position to adopt while we do it. Indeed, sleeping in a certain way can represent many benefits for the organism.

Several experts recommend sleeping on the left side given all the benefits this brings in terms of health and longevity. A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology demonstrated thanks to logical and simple principles to understand why.

For example, sleeping on the stomach is completely discouraged, since this exerts a pressure on the cervical vertebrae that can cause lumbar pain and affect breathing.

Sleeping on the right side should also be avoided, because it can cause stomach burning, promote gastric reflux, and numbness. This position is also discouraged for pregnant women especially because it causes a decrease in blood flow to the uterus.

That is to say, that the left side is much more beneficial for pregnant women in relation to the other positions, but not only for expectant mothers since, according to health experts, adopting this position offers numerous benefits among which we find:

1) Improves digestion.

The stomach and pancreas are located on the left flank. In this way, when we sleep on that side, we ensure a better digestion.

To put it another way, the stomach can digest food gradually and correctly while the pancreas will be able to better segregate the enzymes necessary for a good digestion.





2) Ensures the proper functioning of the lymphatic system.

The main role of the lymphatic system is the drainage of excess fluid in the different tissues of the body to facilitate its evacuation. Knowing that most of the organs of the lymphatic system are located on the left flank, sleeping on this side would facilitate their functions as well as free the body of toxins that can accumulate there.

3) It improves the cardiac health.

As we know, the heart is located on the left side of our body and when sleeping on that side, we facilitate its functioning. In fact, the fact of lying on the left side helps the heart to pump blood more easily. This will improve blood circulation and promote the irrigation of different organs and tissues of the body.

If you usually sleep on your back, on your belly or on the right side it will take you some time and some practice, but it is possible to accustom the body to sleep in this position.
